The spelling of the "Cocoanut Grove" was just "corrected" to "Coconut Grove". How sure are we that this is a correction? It clearly has been the "Cocoanut Grove" in the past - many nightclubs use this spelling. Had it been changed to "Coconut" at some point? If so, it would be of some interest to say when. I think File:Cocoa(sic)nut.png refers to this nightclub, though it's hard to be sure due to poor resolution. - Nunh-huh 00:23, 6 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I was sort of wondering if they changed the spelling after the famous "Cocoanut Grove" fire (in Boston)...not that it's much of a change to Coconut... but if they thought they were warding off a curse or something... maybe not... - Nunh-huh 00:48, 6 Nov 2004 (UTC)

It has always been "Cocoanut Grove" and stayed that way until the hotel closed. Any spellings in connection with The Ambassador Hotel that are "Coconut Grove" are simply wrong. 71.107.57.131 06:40, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Hotels

Why on earth would someone remove Category:Hotels from an article about a hotel???

Because there is already Category:California hotels. All hotels in California are hotels, so there's no reason to double categorize the article. See Wikipedia:categorization. I guess we really need a "defunct hotels" category. Thanks, -Will Beback 21:12, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To whomever are helping edit this article, please note the repeated, unwarranted vandalism of the link to The Ambassador Hotel's longest serving Doorman, "Art The Doorman" Nyhagen, doorman at the Ambassador Hotel for over 45 years, and doorman at the door, and questioned by the various investigating authorities for almost 48 hours upon the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. Any viewing of the link, not to mention the 13 other Ambassador Hotel history sites that link to it as well, will show the validity and appropriateness of the link. I don't intend to get into deletion war with, WikiOTR, and his history of vandalizing and link spamming other articles. I think of that phrase when relating something pre-planned, and usually honorable or auspicious. When used with an "assassination", it just struck me completely wrong. Removed a claim that the Golden Globes were held at the Cocoanut Grove in 1944. According to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the first (informal) ceremony was held at 20th Century Fox in 1944. The first social event was at the Beverly Hills Hotel in 1945; the first "Golden Globes" ceremony was held at the Hollywood Roosevelt in 1947.[1] No mention of the Grove or Ambassador on their history page. I was Director of Entertainer Services for the Cocanut Grove from 1965 to 1969. This is how one of my old business cards has it spelled. There are many entertainers who appeared there that are not mentioned. Don Ho, Eddie Fisher, Petula Clark, The Association, Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians, Tony Bennett, Wayne Newton (at 17 his first appearance outside of Las Vegas he had the whole rat pack in attendance), Aretha Franklin, The Righteous Brothers, Chicago, The Dave Clark 5, The Fifth Dimension, The Four Tops, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Brenda Lee, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Nancy Sinatra, Lou Rawls, Tom Jones, The Temptations, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Neil Diamond, The Moody Blues, The Lettermen, and Jim Nabors.
